Engelken, Margaret
Margaret Engelken, 82, of Manchester, died at the Good Neighbor Home on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012. Mass of Resurrection: 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, with the Rev. Richard Gaul as celebrant. Burial: St. Mary Catholic Church Cemetery, Manchester. Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Margaret was born Oct. 22, 1929, in Dyersville, to Joseph C. and Mary (Heiring) Tegeler. She was raised and educated in the Dyersville area. On Nov. 23, 1948, Margie was united in marriage to Virgil Engelken at St. Francis Basilica in Dyersville. Three children were born to this union. Together they started farming near Ryan in 1949. In 1950, they purchased a farm three miles east of Manchester, where they farmed for 40 years.
After retirement they enjoyed traveling and spending time at their winter home in Florida.
Survivors include her son, Steven (Helen) Engelken of Dubuque; her daughter, Pam (Martin) Boeckenstedt of Iowa City; two grandsons, Kurt (Becki) Engelken of Florida and Ted Engelken of Dubuque; one granddaughter, Katie Boeckenstedt of Iowa City; two great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Karli Engelken of Florida; and two brothers, Paul (Norma) Tegeler and Jean (Ann) Tegeler, both of Dyersville.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, on Feb. 7, 2010; a daughter, Sheila Engelken; a sister, Marie Becker; and her parents.
