Janette Whitman, 79, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in Cedar Rapids. Per her wishes, a private graveside service will take place for her family and close friends at Lisbon Cemetery. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, is caring for Janette and her family.
Survivors include her children, Michael (Diane) Whitman of Wilton, Karen Billman of Mechancisville, Gary Whitman of Morley and Cheryl (Darren) Coppess of Stanwood; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Janette Kay Fisher was born July 4, 1939, to Harold and Irene (Kohl) Fisher, near Mechanicsville. She graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1957 and soon after married Clair LaVerne Whitman on June 3, 1957, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Janette was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion auxiliaries, as well as the Lisbon Lions Club. Janette and Clair would winter in McAllen, Texas, and enjoyed camping in their RV; they even belonged to a local camping club. She enjoyed playing euchre and bingo and spending time with her family and friends.
Janette was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clair; and sister, Sandy.
