Melcher, Donna Marie

Donna Marie Melcher, 88, of Shawnee, Kan., passed away Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, in Naples, Fla., where she was a winter resident.

Formerly of Cedar Rapids, she had been a resident of Shawnee for the past five years. She was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of the late Dan and Henrietta (Steingraeber) Dustman. Donna was a graduate of Sperry High School and attended Burlington Junior College. She married Arden E. Melcher on Aug. 29, 1943. Mrs. Melcher was a dental assistant for many years before retiring in 1975.

Survivors include her sons, Dana (Sue) Melcher and Bill (Judy) Melcher; daughter, Janet (Kurt) Fawkes; sisters, Martha (Morton) Kent and Laura Speidel; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arden E. Melcher in 2006; her sister, Marian Dustman; and her brother, Fred Dustman.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at Grinnell Christian Church, 1331 Hobart St., Grinnell, IA 50112. Burial will be held in Iowa at a later date.
