Winter, Doris Marie
Doris Marie Winter, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the home of her son, Jack, at 3639 Random Rd. SE on Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 1 to 4 p.m. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with services.
Doris is survived by a son, Jack Winter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Shannon (Tyrone) Power of Cedar Rapids and Erin (Mark) Churchill of Marion; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Cooper Churchill of Marion and Ann Winter of Cedar Rapids, and sisters, Bette Shimek of Port Townsend, Wash., and Joy Ross of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Dwight Winter.
Doris was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, to Gayle and Bertha Rollins. She married Dwight S. Winter there on July 4, 1942. He died in 1995. She worked in food service for Washington High School.
Doris enjoyed visiting with people but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to spoil her granddog, Nickie.
A memorial fund has been established.
