Barth, Maracella I.
Marcella I. Barth, 91, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of New Albin, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at The Woodlands / The Meth-Wick Community in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon, with the Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial will be at Locust Cemetery, rural Decorah. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Marcella Ilean Barth was born March 4, 1921, in Oak Springs Switch, near Wexford in Allamakee County to John and Margaret Ann “Maud” (Portwine) Spores. She grew up during the depression, attended rural Allamakee County elementary schools and as a young girl was a housekeeper in Lansing. On Dec. 11, 1940, she married Floyd G. Barth in Waukon. They farmed for many years in Winneshiek County, moving in 1960 to the New Albin area, where they continued to farm.
Marcella was an active and enthusiastic member of TOPS, an avid writer of poetry, and painted and sang hymns. In 2005, she moved to Cedar Rapids to be with her daughter, Linda.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Ray) Whittle of Cedar Rapids and Roxanne Barth of La Crosse, Wis.; a daughter-in-law, Jean Barth of Minong, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; a son, Galen; a grandson, Peter Whittle; a great-grandson, Luke Whittle; and all of her six siblings.
