Kathleen Marie Troendle, 80, of Lansing, died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Thornton Manor in Lansing.
She was born July 8, 1933, the daughter of Cyril and Viola (Guider) Garin, in rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa. Kathleen graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School in 1951 in Lansing. On Feb. 12, 1952, Kathleen Garin was united in marriage to Thomas Troendle at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Six children were born from this union. They then farmed together near Lycurgus. Her ex-husband preceded her in death on March 15, 1990.
Kathleen was a longtime member of Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a current member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, where she was active in the CCD program and liked to lead the rosary before Mass.
Kathleen worked at Lansing Kee High School as a cook for 21 years. One of Kathleen's pasttimes was playing cards. Her family reunions, her children and grandchildren were the highlights of her life. On a daily basis she liked to go out to eat with her longtime companion and friend, Louis Spinner.
Survivors include her five children, Mary Kathryn "Kathy" (Rich) Hanson, Milwaukee, Wis., Patricia (Harlan) Schlitter, Lansing, Marsha (Roger) Luensmann, Manchester, Mark (Molly Claypool) Troendle, Cedar Rapids, and Gregory Troendle, Lansing; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Kathleen) Garin, Cedar Rapids, and Leo (Mary Lou) Garin, Lansing; and her longtime companion, Louis Spinner, Lansing.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Troendle; and a brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Patty Garin.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture service at 4 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lansing and one hour before Mass time at the church on Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing. The Rev. John Moser will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
