Larson, Ronald D.
Ronald D. Larson, 76, of Marion, died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service: 10 a.m. Monday at the Lutheran Church of Resurrection in Marion by Pastor Dennis Johnson. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley; son, Brian (Jean) Larson of Waverly; grandchildren, Lindsay (Adam) Varney of Waterloo, Hillary Larson of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Kelly Larson of Cedar Falls; a great-grandson, Grant Varney; brothers, Gerald (Alma) Larson of St. Charles, Mo., and Al (Nancy) Larson of Johnston; two sisters-in-law, Sara Schneider of Williamston, Mich., and Pat Larson of Elburn, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donald and David Larson; and a nephew, Bart Larson.
Ronnie was born July 3, 1934, in Postville, the son of Glenn and Stella (Kjosa) Larson. He graduated from Elkader High School in 1953. On June 1, 1957, Ronnie was united in marriage to Shirley Olson in Elgin. Ronnie was a supervisor for the DOT paint crew for 38 years. He enjoyed collecting toys, attending auctions, and classic car shows. Ronnie was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of the John Deere 2-Cylinder Club and AACA. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in Ronnie's honor.
