Leighty, Dorothy M.
Dorothy M. Leighty, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 11, 2011, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab. Services: 10 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Bob Voels. Interment: 2 p.m. at Panther Creek Cemetery, Redfield. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Dorothy is survived by her children; a stepson, Terry (Mary Fox) Leighty of Palatine, Ill., Linda Leighty of Palm Desert, Calif., Gary Leighty of Cedar Rapids, and Cindy Eenhuis of Covington, Ga.; a granddaughter, Brandy (Curt) Ricker of Kennesaw, Ga.; and two great-grandchildren, CJ and Gavin Ricker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, James Eenhuis; brother, James Williams; and sister-in-law, Grace Williams.
Dorothy was born Jan. 5, 1919, in Redfield, to Ernest and Mary Williams. She married William Leighty in Adel on Feb. 18, 1950. He died in 1979. Dorothy sold cosmetics for over 50 years with Vanda. She taught in rural schools for over nine years in Dallas County. Dorothy loved gardening and was a true homemaker. Her time spent with her family was her greatest pleasure. She was a member of NARVRE and the Railroad Club.
