'Enter the Black' -- The preseason links
Marc Morehouse
Aug. 24, 2012 2:19 pm
Here are the links to the positional previews Scott Dochterman and I worked on these last two weeks.
This is for quick reference. Game week starts in 58 hours.
TE/WR -- Iowa atmosphere keeps Fiedorowicz level
“Definitely,” Fiedorowicz said. “No one wants to be embarrassed by coach Ferentz, obviously. Whenever he says something, you've got to take it to heart. It's always good advice.”
SECONDARY -- Law locks in on his own identity
“He's starting to get to the point where he's getting a better feel for the game,” Wilson said. “He watches a lot of film. After he watches film, he comes up and asks a lot of questions. Once he gets over that ‘being too hard on himself,' he's going to be OK.”
OFFENSIVE LINE -- Iowa's early takedown scores gold in Blythe
“I chose football because I love everything that goes along with it. I love the preparation and everyone working toward a common goal. I'm not saying they don't do that in wrestling, but just working within the team. I love that part about football. I love everything else that comes a long with football.”
DEFENSIVE LINE -- BOOM and BOOF -- A realization moment for Darian Cooper
“When I first got here, I was so used to playing in high school and running, maybe giving a guy the shoulder, maybe him falling back or stumbling but definitely moving,” Cooper said. “So, I'm running at Riley Reiff. I turn and - BOOM! - I hit him.
“I'm like what is this? I hit him and my legs stopped. Then, I feel two tree-trunk arms hit me.”
RUNNING BACK -- Bullock no longer under the radar
“The one thing it does is keep me young,” running backs coach Lester Erb said. “Every time I walk in the room, everyone is young. You have to continue to be detailed with these guys. You can't assume anything with any of them right now.”
QUARTERBACK -- From microbiology to macro football, Rudock readies for his time
“It's all about preparation,” Rudock said. “If you're not studying, you're not going to do well on the test. There are very few people in the world who can actually do that. And even then, somewhere along the line, they had the studying done earlier."
SPECIAL TEAMS -- Wienke's wild ride to punter included advice from Ann Arbor
“When Coach Carr retired, he was the one - I actually always liked Iowa - but he told me probably to go with Iowa,” Wienke said. “That's probably the next-best thing that was going to be for me with my style of play.”
LINEBACKERS -- Alston makes his case for PT
“When I was red-shirted for those couple of weeks, I wished that I would have kept it, just so I could learn all the little details of the defense,” Alston said. “But I've been an experienced learner. So just getting in the game and getting that experience down pat in that first season. I think I got the nerves out and everything.”
