Reeves, Riley Jr.
Riley Jr. Reeves, 82, of Vinton, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2010, at Virginia Gay Hospital in Vinton. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton, with Pastor Jim Blair officiating. A celebration of life will follow at Windsor Manor.
Riley was the son of Riley M. and Eva (Hill) Reeves. He was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Bucknel, Iowa. He joined the Army and served 15 years during World War II and the Korean War. In 1962, Riley was united in marriage to Novil Reeves in Columbus Junction. To this union, two children were born. Riley lived in Hampton, Ill., before moving to Vinton, where he spent the majority of his life. He did road construction and later worked and eventually retired from Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and spending time with family. He was active in Eagles Club and the American Legion.
Riley is survived by his daughters, Roline Simon of Milford, Kan., and Sharon (Mitch) Tuttle of Vinton; three grandsons, Devin and Derrick Simon and Mitchell A. Tuttle; a granddaughter, Nichole (Nic Scott) Moss; a great-grandson, Nashua Scott; four brothers, Lyle, Ray, Harry and Archie Reeves; and one sister, Mary Reeves.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Novil; his parents, Riley M. and Eva Reeves; three brothers, Bobby, Joey and Marty Reeves; and a sister, Lavonne Brozovich.
