Kane, Eugene Francis 'Pat'
Eugene Francis “Pat” Kane, 83, of 910 Blairsferry Rd., Marion, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Albertson, with military services by VFW Post 788. Burial: 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa. Friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Pat is survived by his wife, Rosella; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Fye of San Diego, Calif.; son, Daniel Eugene Patrick (Velma) Kane of Cedar Rapids; son, Kevin Randolph (Patti) Kane of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Renee Marie (Paul) Petersen of Davenport; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Margaret Cejka of Bertram; a brother, James Randolph (Shirley) Kane of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
His great-granddaughter, Monique Danielle Szumilas; three sisters; two brothers; and his parents, preceded Pat in death.
Pat was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Oxford Junction, the son of Eugene and Sarah McCarty Kane and married Rosella Stephenson on Oct. 15, 1947, in Sigourney. Pat served in the Navy during World War II and his ship helped prepare the way for the invasion at Okinawa. Pat was a former brakeman of the Rock Island, Milwaukee and BNSF railroad companies. He served two years as Linn County First Deputy Clerk of the District Court. He was then elected in 1968, as the Linn County Recorder where he served for 28 years, until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and Faith Lutheran Church.
