Eric Shawn Millis, 52, of Ireton, Iowa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at the Hawarden Regional Healthcare Hospital. Memorial services at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Eric grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1980. He served in the United States Army from 1980 to 1983. After his time in the service, he worked in Florida doing construction. He moved to Le Mars, Iowa, in 1993 where he was married to Sheila Stephenson for nine years. Together they had one daughter, Autumn Elizabeth Millis in 1994. Eric lived in Ireton from 2002 until his passing, during this time he worked at Siouxland Energy and Livestock Cooperative as a maintenance man.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Joan Millis; and his uncle, Dixon Terry.
Eric enjoyed collecting firearms and target shooting. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and passionately followed Iowa Hawkeye football.
Eric's greatest love was his daughter, Autumn. He delighted in her company and said many times she brought the most joy to his life.
Eric is survived by his daughter, Autumn; father, John Millis of Cedar Rapids; brothers, David and wife Marie Millis of Greeley and Alec and wife Wendy Millis of Cedar Rapids; nephew and niece, Christopher and Sarah; and two grand-nieces, Elizabeth and Lilly.
