Schlachter, Melvin Fredrick
Melvin Fredrick Schlachter, 90, of Grand Island, Neb., formerly a 46 year resident of Hastings, Neb., died Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at his Grand Island home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral Episcopal Church, Hastings. The Rev. Charles Peek and the Rev. Barbara Schlachter will officiate. Burial will be in the Parkview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. All Faiths Funeral Home of Grand Island is serving the family.
Mr. Schlachter was born Dec. 20, 1919, near Glenvil, Neb., the son of William and Marie (Rabbe) Schlachter.
He was preceded in death by wife, Mildred (Craven) Schlachter in 1993; parents; and sister, Donna Juggert.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. Melvin H. Schlachter and the Rev. Barbara Schlachter of Iowa City; daughters and son-in-law, The Rev. Ellie and Robert Thober of North Platte, Neb., and Elaine Hibbeler of Grand Island, Neb.; sisters, Bernice Nelson of Corinth, Texas, Vera Shuck of Edgar, Neb., Merna Kinnison of Lincoln, Neb., and Lylis Stephenson of Carmichael, Calif.; brother, Harlan Schlachter of Hansen, Neb., and sister-in-law, Doris Herdina of Red Hook, NY.
Additional survivors are seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral and the Special Olympics.
