May. 7, 2012 8:22 am
Police are investigating reports of gunshots after several people said they heard someone fire a weapon Monday morning in southeast Cedar Rapids.
It happened at around 3 a.m. in the 1400 block of Fourth Avenue SE.
Police on the scene said a patrol officer driving in the area noticed a man fitting the description of the suspect, carrying a shotgun. The officer got out of his patrol car and chased the man for a short time. Police said the man with the gun was not cooperative, and struggled with an officer could take him into custody.
Investigators identified the man they arrested as Timothy Rush, 22, of Cedar Rapids. He now faces charges of possession of an offensive weapon, public intoxication and interference with official acts.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the gunshots continues, but people in the area said they were disappointed. The shooting is the latest in a series of recent violent incidents in Cedar Rapids. Police have investigated several shootings in the past few weeks.
There's no word yet on whether officers plan to make other arrests.
