Police say North Liberty man hit car's driver with hammer

Police arrested a North Liberty man Saturday morning after the man allegedly entered a vehicle in Iowa City and hit the driver in the back of the head with a claw hammer.
According to criminal complaints, officers responded to 260 Golfview Court around 7 a.m. for a vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old David Allan Black Jr. had entered a vehicle and allegedly struck the driver in the back of the head with a claw hammer. The driver told police the blow made him lose consciousness and he crashed the vehicle into a pile of rocks.
Police said the driver did not have life-threatening injuries.
Black was charged with assault with a weapon, first-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief.
Black is being held in the Johnson County Jail on a $37,500 cash-only bond.
