Valeska (Vee) Bailey, 81, passed away Dec. 24, 2018, at Solon Care Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at St. Thomas More Church, 3000 12th Ave., Coralville, with Father Charles Adam officiating. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Iowa City Hospice, PEO Educational Fund, St. Thomas More Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
Valeska Ann Moore was born on Oct. 10, 1937, in Chicago to Lyle and Stella (Valesky) Moore. Vee was raised in the state of Indiana and lived in the cities of Logansport and Valparaiso, where she graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1954. She attended nursing school for two years. Vee was united in marriage to Earl Norman Bailey on March 2, 1957, in Valparaiso, Ind. Norm and Vee lived in Columbus, Ohio, Bloomington, Ind., and Austin, Texas, before settling in Iowa City, Iowa, where they have lived since 1966.
Vee was an active mother, wife, business partner and friend to all those who knew her. Vee was a vital part of the family real estate business and helped Norm run North Bay Inc. for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where she volunteered and taught religious education classes. She also was involved with her PEO Chapter (Iowa City Chapter HI), University Women's Club and the Lake Hubert Women's Association. Vee enjoyed tennis, swimming, boating, playing bridge, entertaining and spending time with family and friends. When Vee wasn't volunteering, or helping Norm with the family business, they enjoyed traveling to their homes in Pine Island, Fla., and Lake Hubert, Minn.
Vee is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Norm Bailey; four children, Michela (Kela) Bailey of St. Louis, Mo., Bradford (Brenda) Bailey of Floyd, Iowa, Laura (Chris) Sogard of Indianapolis, Ind., and Amanda (Ryder) Houston of Iowa City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Dr. Ryan (Joy) Bailey of Jacksonville, Fla., Eric Bailey (Melanie Slattery) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Katherine Bailey (fiance Hunter Ortmayer) of Charles City, Iowa, Abby Sogard and Annabelle Sogard of Indianapolis, Ind., and Braden Houston and Schuyler Houston of Iowa City, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Adaline Bailey of Jacksonville, Fla.; one nephew, Chris Moore of Peoria, Ill.; two great-nieces, Shelby Moore and Laura Belle Moore of Peoria, Ill.; and many other nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Valeska was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Stella (Valesky) Moore; her brother, Charles Moore; her sister-in-law, Sue (Hancock) Moore; and her in-laws, Dr. Earl and Mildred Bailey.
