Wessel, Roland L.
Roland L. Wessel, 94, of Colesburg, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at the Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. Mass of Resurrection: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mark's Catholic Church, Edgewood, with the Rev. Stephen Lundgren officiating. Interment: Zion Cemetery, Colesburg. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Edgewood.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Wessel of Colesburg; five children, Karen (John) Schneider of Blue Bell, Pa., Ellen (Chuck) Lammers of Manchester, Mary (Duane) Streif of Elgin, John (Luann) Wessel of Colesburg, and Joyce (Edward) Connoly of Milwaukee, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Charles; and three siblings, Olinda Stanaker, Virgil Wessel and Vivian Wessel in infancy.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1916, in Colesburg, Iowa, the son of Roy and Helen (Keck) Wessel. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating in 1935 from Colesburg High School.
On June 14, 1939, Roland was united in marriage to Kathryn Bockenstedt in Petersburg. Together they farmed near Colesburg.
