CAMP CLOSING: It seems this was the last summer season for Camp Hitaga near Walker. The council that oversees the camp announced it will sell the property due to low attendance and increasing costs.

OVERPAID: A special investigation by the state auditor has flagged $300,183 in disbursements over four years from the State Public Defender's Office. Officials say they found evidence that 11 private attorneys overbilled the office during that time, while 13 attorneys submitted improper mileage reimbursement claims.

PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH: A Des Moines Register investigation revealed a handful of Iowa driving instructors have recent convictions for driving violations and other crimes - including driving while intoxicated. The investigation showed that in the past decade, three of the state's 443 driver's ed instructors have been convicted of drunk driving, two were convicted of assault and four others were convicted of other crimes, most related to improper driving.
