CEDAR RAPIDS - The public is invited to a rededication ceremony for the refurbished Lady Liberty statue on Monday, the third anniversary of the crest of the Floods of 2008 that damaged the work.
The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the First Avenue Bridge downtown.
Volunteers have worked for nearly 300 hours to restore Lady Liberty since it was damaged by the floodwaters, the city said in a release. The 8 1/2-foot-tall statue has been soda-blasted, rebuilt and repainted.
The piece, a miniature replica of the Statue of Liberty, was given to the Cedar Rapids in 1950 as part of a Boy Scouts of America program. It was moved in 2003 from its former site in Greene Square Park.
