An arraignment has been scheduled in Johnson County District Court for a man charged with stealing guns from a Coral Ridge Mall store.
Mohamed B. Elkamil, 19, of 2610 Bartelt Road No. 10, Iowa City, is charged with third-degree burglary stemming from an incident Dec. 8, 2008 at Scheels, 1461 Coral Ridge Ave. in Coralville.
Elkamil's arraignment is set for July 29.
According to police, Elkamil and a co-defendant, Charles Currey, 20, of North Liberty, gained access to the store by breaking out a rooftop window and climbing down a ladder, then stealing 17 handguns worth more than $11,000.
Elkamil is charged with using a hammer to break into two display cases to steal the merchandise.
Currey, 20, admitted to his involvement with the burglary, police said. He was arrested in February 2009 after one of the stolen guns was found in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
Court documents said he was charged with third-degree theft and trafficking stolen weapons, a Class D felony.
