Charles "Chuck" Joseph Phelps, 77, of Lisbon, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. A visitation will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids.
Chuck was born April 3, 1940, the son of Charles and Mary (Armstrong) Phelps, in New York City, N.Y. He was
a graduate of Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, and on Aug. 26, 1961, he married Judy Caldwell in Cedar Rapids. Beginning in 1971, Chuck owned and operated Phelps Painting for over 46 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and had many hobbies, including fishing, camping and traveling. Chuck greatly enjoyed walking, hiking and horseback riding in the mountains. He also had a great love for music. In his younger days, he was active in choir and theater.
More than anything, Chuck loved his family. He was a caring husband, father, grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Phelps; seven children, Charles "Charlie" (Deanna) Phelps, Donna (Russ) Tallman, Marie (Lonnie) Alexander, Judy Ann Phelps, Susan (David) Petersen, Brenda (Gary) Eddy and Todd Phelps; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie Ismalnd and Mary Schneider; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son-in-law and two brothers-in-law.
