The stars of the local/area class in professional baseball this season are outfielder Scott Schebler and pitcher Colin Rea.
Both graduated to the major leagues and are there now: Schebler with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Rea with the San Diego Padres.
A Cedar Rapids Prairie graduate, Schebler hit .241 in 121 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City. For the Dodgers he is 5-for-20 (.250) with two of his five hits home runs.
Rea, a Cascade native, has made six starts for the Padres and has a 2-2 record and 4.26 earned run average. He has given up 29 hits in 31.2 innings and struck out 26.
The 25-year-old right-hander rocketed up the prospect charts this summer with amazing numbers at the minor-league level. He went 5-4 with a 1.98 ERA in 18 starts for Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso.
