Say no to Bakken oil pipeline

To the editor:
Building a pipeline to bring Bakken oil to refiners will not give us energy independence.
We can only achieve this goal by developing clean, sustainable energy sources. Bakken oil is not environmentally feasible. It will contribute to cooking our planet, in its extraction, transportation, and burning. It is not renewable. It pollutes. It is not economically feasible. Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries have oil. They can and do undercut prices, thereby threatening the profitability of North American companies.
As we begin to develop clean, sustainable energy sources, the market for these energy sources is global. The Paris Climate Summit determined that the world needs to adopt new, low-carbon energy technologies. We need to support the businesses and industries that will provide them, not just for our country, but for the world.
Bakken oil is not one of them.
