Mardean Stein, 87, of Vinton, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, at the Vinton Lutheran Home. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, Overton Funeral Home, Dysart. Burial: Dysart Cemetery.

Mardean Hilda Stein was born Aug. 10, 1928, on the family farm in Benton County, the daughter of Eldo and Hilda (Jacobs) Stein. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in 1946. On Sept. 26, 1946, Mardean married Arthur Hoeppner. They later divorced. Mardean farmed near Keystone before moving to Cedar Rapids, where she was the office manager for Co-op Feed Mill on the west side of Cedar Rapids for 26 years. She enjoyed needle work, gardening and dancing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mardean is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Ken) Hackman of Lampe, Mo., and Becky (Mike) Welsh of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Roger (Susan) Hoeppner of Cedar Rapids and Reed (Shirley) Hoeppner of Marengo; a brother, Elmer (Beverly) Stein of Dysart; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
