What comes after ‘stand your ground’ law
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 4, 2012 2:14 pm
I have to agree with The Gazette's March 30 editorial “Stand against a law we don't need.” I used to be a member of the National Rifle Association but no longer can I support their entire program.
Don't get me wrong, they do a lot of good. I am a former Marine who saw brutal up-close combat in Korea.
There is a big difference between war and killing someone who you perceive is a threat to you on the streets who is unarmed.
If this “stand your ground” law goes into effect, I am sure a Dodge City mentality will prevail. Just think, you can be walking down the street, look at someone and that person perceives that look as a threat to him, so he guns you down. The law will state he stood his ground and no crime committed under the law.
What will our lawmakers think of next?
