Five people were arrested after a drug bust near Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids late Thursday.
After learning of possible drug activity, police executed two search warrants at the Eagle's Pointe apartments, at 5550 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, No. 2, and 5542 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, No. 11.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said a small amount of marijuana and prescription medication was seized.
Lucas C. Essy, 21, of apartment No. 11, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, disorderly house and a drug tax stamp violation. His roommate, 25-year-old Brett D. Seran, was also arrested for possessing drug paraphernalia.
At 5550 Kirkwood Blvd. SW, police arrested Matthew Lehman, 19, of apartment No. 2, (possession of drug paraphernalia); Brady R. Peck, 22, of St. Charles, (possession of marijuana) and Acacia D. Leaven, 21, of 5141 Johnson Ave. SW, No. 4, (possession of prescription drugs).
Hamblin said most apartment managers near the college are helpful and cooperative.
“They invite us in to walk through the hallways on a regular basis,” Hamblin said. “They try to help us as much as they can.”
