MARLA JEAN BATEMAN North Liberty Marla Jean Bateman, 56, of North Liberty, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Marla was a true fighter. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Grace Community Church in North Liberty. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.
Survivors include her children, Chelsea (Cory) Leonard of North Libery, Iowa, Jay Bateman of North Liberty and Sean (Megan) Bateman of North Liberty; her mother, Illa Menge of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her siblings, Cindy (Mark) Carpenter of Cedar Rapids, Ronda Menge (Brian) Kelley of Des Moines, Iowa, Carles (Doug) Farley of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Lori) Menge of Cedar Rapids, Anita (Lon) Richardson of Cedar Rapids and Ellie (Todd) Cornell of Marion, Iowa; and her grandson, Taven Leonard of North Liberty.
Her father, Marvin Menge, and her husband, John Truett Bateman, preceded her in death.
Marla was born April 3, 1960, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Marvin and Illa (Welsh) Menge. She married John Truett Bateman on Aug. 29, 1981, in Robins, Iowa. Marla worked in Mercy Services for Mercy Hospital in Iowa City and was an active member with Grace Community Church. She loved God and truly lived her faith by helping people and always welcoming and opening her door to everyone. She was a second mom to everyone she knew. Marla loved pizza, and country and Christian music. Her family was very important to her and her grandson Taven was priceless. Her love is never-ending.
