Florence Rebecca Paustian was born April 3, 1921, on a farm north of Garwin, the daughter of Adolf and Alma Frahm. Florence grew up in Garwin and graduated from Garwin High School with the class of 1939. On Aug. 27, 1941, Florence was united in marriage to Milo Paustian in Schleswig, Iowa. After their marriage, Milo joined the U.S. Army and served as an MP in California. At this time, Florence became "Rosie the Riveter." Upon Milo's honorable discharge from service, the couple made their home on a farm west of Traer until 1986, when they moved to Traer. In 1992, they moved to Sunrise Terrace Apartments in Traer.
She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of the Traer Legion Auxiliary. Florence enjoyed dancing, square dancing, round dancing and ballroom dancing. She also enjoyed fishing, bus tours around the United States, and watching her children grow up and seeing their accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Barbara Overton; two brothers, Elmer Starck and Clarence "Sam" Starck; twin sisters, Lillie Yaggy and Linda Benson; her own twin sister, Frances Lane; and a great-granddaughter, Susan Ellie Overton.
Florence is survived by a son, Steve (LaVonne) Paustian of Waterloo; a daughter, Nancy Hardister of Norwalk; seven grandchildren; and 12
great-grandchildren.
Florence's family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise Hill Care Center for the many years of care they provided for her.
