Jane Gloria Rarick, 84, died Sept. 2, 2015, in Cedar Rapids.
Jane is survived by her brother, Ken McDaniel of Kingman, Ariz.; her brother, Carey McDaniel of Hudson, Fla.; her son, Rick Hecox of Tucson, Ariz.; her daughter, Dawn Hecox of Fort Madison; her daughter, Darcy Bennett of Austin, Texas; her son, Shawn Hecox of Homosassa, Fla.; her son, Bruce Hecox of Tiffin; her son, Robb Rarick of Austin, Texas; and her daughter, Michelle Rarick of Iowa City, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frances McDaniel of Kewanee, Ill., and her mother, Catherine Carey of Roosevelt, N.Y.
Jane was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Mineola, N.Y., to parents Frances McDaniel and Catherine Carey McDaniel. Jane's dog, Blaze, was awarded the Ken-L-Ration Dog Hero of Heroes in 1957 for saving the life of her 2-year-old daughter, Dawn, from a sow on the family farm in Timewell, Ill. She married Duane Hecox in 1950 and the couple had five children together. She later married Larry Rarick in 1966 and had two additional children.
Jane was a social, active woman, who was deeply involved in caretaking for the majority of her life. She enjoyed animal rescue, bowling and bird watching.
Her family and friends will always remember her as an energetic, passionate person.
The cremation will take place in the coming days.
The family would like to thank Mercy Iowa City and West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids for caring for Jane in the last weeks of her life.
The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
