Modesta A. "Dessie" Overmann, 94, of Dyersville, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Kramer Funeral Home, 750 12th Ave. SW, Dyersville, where a parish vigil service will be at 3 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Kramer Funeral Home before the funeral services.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, with burial in SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Petersburg. The Rev. Dennis Quint will officiate.
Modesta was born May 14, 1921, in Petersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Alphonse and Susan (Grawe) Kerkhoff. She married Edmund Overmann on Jan. 16, 1946, in Petersburg. Together they farmed in the Petersburg area until retirement in 1980.
Survivors include one daughter, Carla (John) Geistkemper of Earlville; three sons, Gary (Carlyne) of Petersburg, Loras of Shellsburg and Steven of Dyersville; seven grandchildren, Karen (Greg) Billick, Michelle (John) Pasker, Anthony (Jessie), Daniel and Nicholas (Deb) Overmann, Matthew and Michael Overmann; eight great-grandchildren, Andrew and Caleb Billick, Joshua, Jacob and Noah Pasker, Treyton, Devon and Braydon Overmann; a brother, Eldon Kerkhoff of Guttenberg; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Overmann and Gladys Overmann, both of Dyersville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edmund, in 2002; two grandchildren, Christine and Timothy Geistkemper; siblings, Rita (Arnold and Clarence) Gassmann and Amanda (Edward) Schmidt; and in-laws, Vincent (Julia), Aloysius, Alfred and Irvin Overmann and Emma (Lawrence) Bonert.
