Eugene J. "Gene" Redmond, 88, of Cascade, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, at his home in Cascade, surrounded by his family. Friends and relatives of Gene may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, at Reiff Funeral Home in Cascade, where a wake service will be held at 4 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary held at 7 p.m. Services for Gene will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade, with full military honors afforded by Cascade American Legion Post 528.
He is survived by six children, Marian (George) Karr of Iowa City, Marna (Matt) Heitz of Farley, Mark (Monica) Redmond and Mike (Deb) Redmond, both of Bernard, Pat (Sandie) Redmond of Anamosa and Joe (Lori) Redmond of Bernard; 16 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; five siblings, Ed (Alice) Redmond of Anamosa, Robert (Pat) Redmond of Oklahoma, Barb Martin of Anamosa, Rita Chapman of Hopkinton and Joan (Bob) Deucker of Flint, Mich.; and four sisters-in-law, Betty Redmond of Monticello, Murilla Gehl, Marie Kivlahan of Cascade and Rita Martin of Bernard. He also is survived by two special farmhands who worked with him in his time of need, Andrew Bahl and Brother Curtis Kedley.
