Kay Karolie Leighty, 77, of Tipton, passed away Thursday, March 26, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. There will a celebration of life service Monday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at First United Church of Christ, Tipton. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. also at the church.
A memorial fund in Kay's honor has been established.

Kay's life journey began Feb. 6, 1939, in Clarence, Iowa, where she was born to Melvin and Helen (Kelly) Hasselbusch. Kay graduated from Clarence High School with the class of 1957 before attending and graduating from Iowa State Teachers College. She was united in marriage to the late William Edward Leighty in 1961, also in Clarence.
Kay was a second-grade teacher in Tipton for 39 years before her retirement. She also taught Sunday school and Bible school and conducted church services at the Cedar County Home. Kay was a member of First United Church of Christ, Tipton.
Kay is survived by her brother, Robert (Arlynn) Hasselbusch; brothers-in-law, Russ (Mary Jo) Leighty and Jerry Leighty; sister-in-law, Donna Andresen; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister-in-law, Jeanette "Bobbie" Williams.
