Leroy Kreutner
LEROY KREUTNER
Atkins
Leroy Allen Kreutner, 68, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Atkins, departed this life on Oct. 17, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins, with the Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be at St. Stephen's Cemetery near Atkins. Visitation also will be at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The family requests any memorials be given to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Building Fund in Atkins.
Leroy was born Jan. 6, 1946, in Vinton, the son of Bernard F. and Marie (Bruch) Kreutner, and lived most of his life in Atkins. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins and attended St. Stephen's Lutheran School, and then graduated in 1964 from Norway High School. Leroy retired from Fleck Sales in Cedar Rapids after 25 years and later worked parttime at the Stoney Point YMCA as a front desk attendant for nine years.
All who met him came to enjoy his sense of humor and friendship. Leroy had a multitude of friends, and was always ready to help in any way he could, was very generous with his time and would always lend a hand. Leroy was of large stature with an infectious sense of humor. Once, when approached by a total stranger who had told him, "if you weren't so big I'd fight you," Leroy's response was, "I could stand in a hole for you."
He touched many lives by the kind, loving life he lived. He made sure to remember family and friends' birthdays or anniversaries with a card that he had made himself on his computer and gave it that personal touch, "Made by Leroy."
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Michael.
He is survived by his brothers, David (Bernice) of Portola Valley, Calif., Loren of Port Angeles, Wash., Jim (Christine) of Cedar Rapids and Wayne (Peg Cretin) of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Jeanne (Murray) Pommier of Bloomington, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, and to Pastor Douglas Woltemath of St. Stephen's in Atkins.
Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.phillips funeralhomes.com.
