Thomason, Orin William
Orin William Thomason, 78, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in his Cedar Rapids home due to complications of COPD. Services 12:30 p.m. Friday, Morgan Funeral and Cremation Choices, Mount Vernon Chapel. The viewing and visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until time of service Friday in the chapel. Burial: Mount Vernon Memorial Cemetery, with military honors, following lunch.
Surviving Orin are his children, Kim (Scott) Smith of Solon, Laura (Keith) Willey of Cedar Rapids, Kathleen Cowman of Springville, Marcia Thomason, Karla Thomason and Kyle (Tiffany) Thomason, all of California.
Orin is also survived by his siblings, Phyllis Fyfe, Dolores Herman and Dale Thomason, 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding Orin in death were his parents, Willard and Florence Thomason; and a sister, Wilma Goetsch.
Orin was born Jan. 29, 1931, in Eagle Grove. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School and attended junior college. Orin served in the U.S. Navy and was very proud to serve his country. He was married to Allene Woods. They moved to the Cedar Rapids in 1962. Orin drove truck, was an owner operator and a member of the Teamsters Union, Local #238, Cedar Rapids.
