Lyle William Miller, 89, a resident of Oaknoll Retirement Residence, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Lensing Funeral Home, 605 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, a luncheon will be held at the Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave. (adjacent to Lensing Funeral Home). Private family burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Lyle was born Dec. 27, 1927, in Iowa City, to C. Hubert and Leona (Brown) Miller. He was a lifelong resident and graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa with a degree in civil engineering. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. On Sept. 3, 1949, Lyle married Mary Jane McArdle.
His career was in construction, and his contracting company constructed about 250 Iowa City homes, most of which were designed by Lyle. He also designed and constructed several apartment complexes, including Rochester Square and Cambridge Place. He was a past president of Iowa City Homebuilders Association, past director of Iowa City Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of Iowa City Airport Commission, member and past trustee of Iowa City Methodist Church, past member of Oaknoll board of directors; and a 57-year member of Iowa City Noon Lions Club.
Lyle enjoyed travel, having visited all 50 states and 13 countries. He also enjoyed playing bridge and northern Minnesota fishing.
Lyle is survived by his son, Mark of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; daughters, Jane Altenbach (John) of Brookfield, Wis., and Susan Noser (Bill) of Iowa City; his brother, Richard Miller (Betty Bergman) of Iowa City; and six grandchildren, Mark (Melissa), Katherine and Patricia Altenbach, and Ryan, Robert and Elizabeth Noser.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Jane; his twin brother, Leslie; and his three sisters, Shirley Ahlgren, Phyllis Landau and Miriam Negahban.
