A Sabula man is hospitalized with a gunshot wound and an Illinois man is charged in the early-morning shooting, police said.
Officers responding about 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a shooting in the 400 block of Pearl Street found Sheldon Woodhurst, 46, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, Police Chief Josh Kilburg said. Woodhurst was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, then airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he remains.
Information on Woodhurst's condition is not being released.
Officers also found David P. Zabransky, 46, of Palatine, Ill., in the same area. After treatment at Mercy in Clinton for unspecified minor injuries, Zabransky was arrested on a charge of attempted murder. He is being held at the Jackson County Jail in Maquoketa in lieu of $25,000 bond pending an initial court appearance Monday.
The investigation into the incident continues.
