Romney should disclose Bain, tax records

I'm sure very few of us, in Iowa, followed Mitt Romney's campaign for Ted Kennedy's Senate seat in 1994. In a recent television talk show, columnist Dana Milbank shared some insight about that election. According to Milbank, Romney claimed that his efforts at Bain Capital had created 10,000 jobs. He was challenged, and he and Bain Capital refused to provide any proof to support that claim.

In the postmortem of that campaign, it was determined that his claim of creating 10,000 jobs and, more importantly, his refusal to provide any evidence to support that claim, hurt him badly.

Today, Romney is claiming that his efforts at Bain Capital created 100,000 jobs and, once again, no proof is offered to support that claim. Bain Capital is known for maintaining meticulous records of its operations, so the data must exist.

It's time for Romney to provide some support for his claims. While he is at it, he should also make public his tax returns. What is he hiding? Every presidential candidate in recent years has made his tax returns public.
