MARK L. GILLUND
Pleasantville
Mark L. Gillund, 58, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at Mercy Hospice House in Johnston following an extended illness. Public graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at the Fairfax Cemetery in Fairfax, with Pastor Trisch Becker of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church officiating.
Mark was born Dec. 28, 1959, at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., to Ron and Sharon (Olson) Gillund while his father was serving in the U.S. Army. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School. Mark attended Kirkwood Community College and obtained his degree in business management.
On Sept. 16, 1989, Mark was united in marriage to Brenda Brandt at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. To this union two children were born, Michael and Robin.
For many years, Mark was a computer technician and worked part time in the trucking industry. In the last years of his life, he moved to Pleasantville and was employed at the Pleasantville Library. He loved fishing and, any free time he had, he could probably be found on the lake casting a line!
He is survived by his children, Michael (Tammy) Gillund of Des Moines and Robin Gillund of Ankeny; his parents, Ron and Sharon Gillund of Fairfax; his former wife, Brenda Brandt of Ankeny; his sister, Sara (Terry) Walter of Palo; his niece, Codi; and nephew, Jordan.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.phillipsfuneralhomes.com.
