To the editor:
President Barack Obama is planning to cut more than 40,000 troops over the next two years, along with 17,000 civilian employees. Where will these cuts come from? New enlistments or the experienced older soldiers? We either lose our future or we lose the experience of those who have served in combat and lead.
Now we put 57,000 more individuals on unemployment and welfare. What does President Obama plan on doing with all these new out-of-work individuals? Why should he worry, he won't be in office so it will be someone else's problem. We have so many people on unemployment and welfare and this could add more.
President Obama has shown he has no respect for our military and those who served this country with pride and honor. He's willing to use our military for his political accomplishments when it suits him and then cast them aside when finished. Our military serve this country with pride and honor and with no regards for their own safety. They take an oath 'to support and defend the constitution” and now they are cast aside. These individuals chose to serve for whatever reason, education assistance, job security, the benefits that come with 20 years of service or just the pride of serving this country. As one of our Founding Fathers said: 'To be prepared for war is one of the most effective means of preserving peace.” - George Washington.
Find your cuts somewhere else, not the military.
