Chet Sedore, 93, of Ottumwa, died at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, at Vista Woods Care Center.
He was born July 10, 1924, in Ottumwa, to Lowell and Susie Helen Hite Sedore. He married Marilyn Watterson on May 21, 1950. She preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 2010.
Chet was a 1941 graduate of Ottumwa High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a lifetime farmer, farming south of Ottumwa, and was an insurance agent with Farm Bureau. Chet also was involved in many civic organizations, including the Ottumwa school board, 1960-69; Kiwanis; 4-H; and Rural Youth and Ruritans. Chet was a member of Davis Street Christian Church, where he served as a deacon, an elder, a Sunday school teacher and sang for many funerals.
Survivors include a son, Kent (Sheila) Sedore of Ottumwa; two daughters, Sue (Larry) Zuehlke of Ottumwa and Sally (Randy) Davison of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Davison, Brad (Amanda) Davison, Allyson Sedore, Nick Sedore, Shauna (Willie) Daubs, Brian (Mindy) Zuehlke, Todd Zuehlke and Scott (Melissa) Zuehlke; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and James Mullenix.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Davis Street Christian Church in Ottumwa with the Rev. James H. Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Agency Cemetery in Agency with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post No. 3 American Legion. Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
