Fay O. Barnes, 73, died Friday, July 29, 2016, at his home in Urbana. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Ken Kline officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg, with military rites conducted by Urbana Legion Post and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, also at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Fay was born June 10, 1943, to Leo and Velma (Putman) Barnes in Chelsea, Iowa. Following high school graduation, Fay served his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Colleen Neal on April 18, 1973, at Rockford, Ill. Fay worked as a machinist for Goss Graphics for many years.
In his leisure, he enjoyed going to the Ozone for coffee and watching television.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen of Urbana; son, Robert (Jessi) Barnes of Urbana; daughter, Nina (Jim) Goersch of Vinton; seven grandchildren, Chris, Allen (Shelly), Trisha, Megan (Kris), Dj, Falcon and Tye; three great-grandchildren, Jayda, Kahrin and Karah; three brothers, Leo (Millie) Barnes of Grand Meadow, Minn., Rex (Joyce) Barnes of Quincy, Ill., and Ray (Marlene) Barnes of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Rea Fuller of Altoona; and one sister-in-law, Judy Barnes of Ursa, Ill.
Fay was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe; and brother-in-law, John Fuller.
