- More with Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.
What's correctable? First quarter success. Iowa hasn't played Illinois for six seasons, so it's a little like playing Maryland.
RB Akrum Wadley clearly wasn't in the circle of trust Saturday. He didn't get a carry until near the end of the first half, when Iowa was behind 35-7. And then he fumbled and then he didn't see another carry until garbage or mop-up or sleepy time. Iowa is on a bit of a ride right now with the freshman.
Illinois has three different QBs and has a lot of exotics. 'Bottom line, the game will probably be decided on the meat and potatoes of it.”
Video 2
- Ferentz gave the linebacker breakdown for Saturday. Sophmore Reggie Spearman is in it, just not starting.
Freshman John Kenny is a full-time fullback now.
Quarterback discussion!!! Or not. 'We haven't had a lot of discussion. We'll just keep playing here and see where it all goes.”
The lessons for Spearman.
Iowa does have a lot of new starters. The new starters aren't as young as they were in August.
What is the general break-in period for new players?
Define a successful season at Iowa. 'You just assess the year when it's over. We have three games we're focused on.”
Tight ends . . . 'Ball goes where it goes. I don't know what to tell you there.”
Video 3
- Running back Mark Weisman was asked what the seniors and the vocal leaders say in the aftermath of Minnesota. There are three significant games left this season. There are things this team can still accomplish. 'Gotta stay together. We only care about what we can control. . . . It's out of our system, it's over. You have to mentally get rid of it.”
What has to happen in the running game?
Video 4 (below)
- WR Kevonte Martin-Manley talks about what the message has to be coming out of such a poor performance.
He makes a great point about having to stay within yourself. If you're not a teammate who's vocal and suddenly you're vocal, you'll quickly be deemed a phony.
'I think that's the last thing we need right now.”
He talks about breakdowns in the passing game.
