Noel J. Motter, 76, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Dennis Johnson. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Noel is survived by his wife, Cheryl; two children, Christopher Motter of Cedar Rapids and Heather (David) Keller of Marion; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Avery and Thorin.
Noel was born April 4, 1941, the son of Henry and Phyllis Motter in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City Junior College. On Sept 3, 1966, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Miller. Noel served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968. He worked in communications for US West and retired after 33 years. Noel was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Harding Masonic Lodge and was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts. Noel loved life and his family. He had many hobbies and loved spending time with his family and best friend, Dayle.
Noel was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and his mother-in-law, Iola Miller.
The Motter family would like to thank all the caring and compassionate people who helped him through his final journey and a special thank-you to Cheryl's family and faithful friends.
