The Hlog's Weekend Video Vault: Some extraordinary music and videos

May. 6, 2011 5:30 am
I don't pretend to be a modern-day music maven. I just know what I like. So here are five choices. All I ask is that if you see one you like and you're at work, play it at a high volume. Well, the third one, anyhow.
I'll know, and I'll tip my hat to you when you do it. If you like or hate any of it, leave a note in the comments section.
Not everyone knows the Avett Brothers. I don't even know if they're brothers. I do know I like this video and song.
This video of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" has over 45 million views. I'm curious to see if she can sustain the meteoric rise she's had in the last few months. But if she never records another song, this one will be around a long time.
Fitz and the Tantrums played in Iowa City this winter, and I couldn't go because of other obligations. Unfortunate. This reminds me of music you used to hear a long time ago, but there's nothing dated about it. This is the video to turn up loud.
Here's a fantastic weird video and an infectious song to close this out. The band is called Tired Pony. I know nothing at all about them and this is the only song of theirs I've ever heard. The song is called "Dead American Writers." It's only two-and-a-half minutes, so give it a try.
This isn't a U2 classic, but I dare you to watch this video and not smile at something in it.
