Jones, Erla M.
Erla M. Jones, 92, of Williamsburg, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Iowa City following a brief illness. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, with the Rev. Kip Murphy officiating. Inurnment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Williamsburg. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Williamsburg, or Williamsburg Public Library. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, is in charge of arrangements.
Erla is survived by her children, Jeri Jones (Thomas Lemons) of Bettendorf, Kenneth Jones (Marsha) of Williamsburg, Gregory Jones of Iowa City, and Evan Jones (Deborah Hufford) of Mequon, Wis.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Rutan (Dan) of Roseville, Calif., Christopher Jones (Nicole) of San Francisco, Calif., and Sophia Jones of Washington, D.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Caden Rutan of Roseville, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry D. Jones; two brothers, Donald and Keith Enochson; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Joan Enochson.
Erla May Enochson was born in rural Lanesboro, Iowa, the daughter of Earl E. and Lucile Ransom Enochson. Erla attended a one-room country schoolhouse. After graduating from Williamsburg High School in 1937 she began working at Security Savings Bank in Williamsburg. She married Harry David Jones on Nov. 24, 1943, while he was home on leave. Erla left the bank to raise her children, returning when they were all in school. She retired from the bank in 1982 as an assistant cashier.
Erla was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, Presbyterian Women's Association, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Erla was a lifelong flower gardener. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzler. Up until three weeks before her death, she still proudly lived at home, gardening and driving herself to the library. Erla was also an accomplished craftsperson who sewed, upholstered and was skilled in many forms of needlecraft, making many treasured quilts.
