Iowa remains atop NWCA rankings

The University of Iowa remained the top-ranked wrestling team in the country.

The Hawkeyes received five first-place votes and are first in the latest USAToday/National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Division I Coaches poll, released Tuesday. Iowa State University was ranked 16th, while University of Northern Iowa was 17th.

The Hawkeyes received one more first-place vote than the preseason rankings. University of Minnesota held its spot at second, matching Iowa's total of first-place votes, which was two less than the Nov. 1 poll. Ohio State and Penn State received one No. 1 vote each.

Iowa has 291 votes, nine more than the Gophers. Cornell University, Ohio State and Penn State round out the top-five.

The Cyclones have 126 votes. The Panthers have 103.
