Jerry L. Evers, 66, of
Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Graveside Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Stanton Cemetery in Stanton, Neb. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and also after 9 a.m. Friday, before the service.
Survivors include his wife, Ingrid; son, Grant (Charity) Evers of Solon and their children, Christina Keller and Brady Evers; adopted daughter, Carly Hummel of Lawton; mother, Jacqueline Lewis of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada; sisters, Suzanne Cole of Wichita, Kan., Connie Rogers of Round Rock, Texas, and Deborah (Brock) Higginbotham of Virden, Manitoba, Canada; stepbrothers, John (Liz) Lewis of Chino, Calif., and William Lewis of Prince George, British Columbia; stepsister, Kathy (Robert) Smith of Regina, Saskatchewan; and many aunts,
uncles and cousins.
His father, Clifford; grandparents; stepbrother, Mike Lewis; brothers-in-law, Ron Cole and Arlie Rogers; and a nephew, James Judd, preceded
Jerry in death.
Jerry Lowell was born May 12, 1948, in Murdo, S.D., the son of Clifford Lowell and Jacqueline Madge Williams Evers. He married
Ingrid June Wilke on June 2, 1973, in Columbus, Neb. Jerry worked at Teleconnect for 10 years and 5 years as an independent consultant within the telecom industry. His hobbies included photography, working in his yard, filming family and athletic events, travel and planning surprises for those he loved.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Jerry's cousin, Barrett Jackson for donating a kidney to Jerry in 2010, an unselfish act which allowed Jerry to be with them another four years. The family would also like to thank his caregiver, Christine Dyson, for her dedication and all that she did to help care for Jerry the past three years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family, Cedar Rapids Metro Youth Football Association, University of Iowa Foundation/UIHC Children's Hospital or St. Jude's Research Hospital
