A Cedar Rapids native was among the victims of the March 22 mudslide in Oso, Washington.
Lon Slauson, 60, was born in Cedar Rapids in 1954. After serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army he worked as a cement mason in Washington State, where he lived for most of his life. After his 2009 retirement he worked as a hotel security manager.
The mudslide left 41 people confirmed dead and two missing in the community on the Stillaguamish River, about 55 miles northeast of Seattle.
Slauson is survived by his children Ronald Slauson, Rachel and Mike Catlett and Daniel Slauson, his parents Donald and Mary Slauson of Elma, Washington, and three sisters Lynn Love, Sandy Pullen and Debby Burghduff.
