Graham, Kathryn M.
Kathryn M. Graham, 95, of Waterloo, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo following a sudden illness.
She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Middlefield Township of Buchanan County, Iowa, the daughter of James Matthew and Mary Agnes (Lahey) McGraw. She graduated from high school in Lamont, Iowa, in 1931. She continued her education at Mount Mercy Junior College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated in 1933. She completed her B.A. degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, in 1964. On April 15, 1944, she and Merle Richard Graham were married at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Sept. 16, 1997. Mrs. Graham was a teacher in the elementary schools of Buchanan County and Independence for 39 years. Mrs. Graham was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa, and was formerly a member of Catholic Daughters of America in Independence.
Survivors include one son, Nick Graham of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and one daughter, Michaele (Bob) Duggan of Gig Harbor, Wash.
There are no public services scheduled. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Independence, Iowa, at a later date.
