JOSEPHINE "JOSIE" K. SCHOLTUS
Cedar Rapids
Josephine "Josie" K. Scholtus, 95, of Cedar Rapids, died in her home Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Josie was born in Chicago on March 3, 1919, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Wynta) Krowka. She married Nicholas Scholtus in Chicago on Jan. 13, 1940.
In 1953, Nicholas and Josie, along with Josie's sister, Sylvia, and her husband, Joe Kosinski, bought Cedar Rapids Greenhouses and moved both families here. Josie continued to work at Cedar Rapids Greenhouses for many years until her "retirement" in 2003.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas; son, Thomas; daughter, Marsha; and sisters, Adele Kozlowski, Sylvia Kosinski and Virginia McAndrew.
Josie was a kind and gentle soul. Her deep faith saw her through many difficult times, but she always maintained a positive outlook. The only thing she enjoyed more than watching the Cubs was spending time with her family.
Josie is survived by her daughter, Carol (Michael) Duggan; grandchildren, Erin (Lee) Hoeger and Nic (Beth) Duggan; great-grandchildren, Tony and Nic Hoeger; and many special nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under Obituaries.
